What to Look For in a
Pain Management Physician

Consider The Following

Board certification – Does the doctor hold certification in pain management from a board that is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties?

Training – Where did the doctor do his/her residency and in what specialty?

Level of involvement – Does your doctor devote his/her clinical practice to pain management on a full-time basis?

Credentials – Is your doctor credentialed at one of the local hospitals or surgery centers?

Experience – How long has your physician been practicing interventional pain management?

Society membership and meeting attendance – Does your physician belong to any of the societies such as: The American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Spinal Intervention Society, the American Society for Interventional Pain Practitioners, or the North American Neuromodulation Society? Membership and active participation in these societies indicates that your practitioner is most likely up to date in the specialty and practices according to the guidelines set forth by the societies.
